Crested Butte, Colorado

On August 14th, we traveled to Crested Butte to spend the weekend with Mom and Aunt Polly.  Aunt Polly had won a trip out there, so of course we were excited to explore a part of Colorado we'd never seen and see family!  It's absolutely beautiful there and surrounded by mountains.  We had a blast and also managed to catch the Olympics in the evenings!

Here we go...
Natalie's pretty adventuresome on this first time ever on a lift!

Beautiful views...

Once off the lift, we took a short (though not easy) hike...

MARMOTS!!

The view from the outlook...

Natalie's first alpine diaper change...

Looking up at the top of Mt. Crested Butte...
(didn't make it to the top because of weather coming in)
Looking back at a steep, slippery part of the trail...

Riding back down (it's quite different to ride down a chair lift)...

Main Street...
all the houses have metal roofs due to heavy snowfall...412 total inches last winter!

i loved this door i found in one of the back alleys

This building is actually a two-story outhouse...when the snow gets piled up high in winter, you need the second story!  (FOR REAL...this is an actual outhouse!)
A fantastic place for breakfast...and worth the long wait!

Jon relaxes by a 100-year-old stove heated by coal!
this house was decked out with license plates
